It's safe to say that the Chesterfield sofa is the single most iconic sofa design in the world. It's steeped in history dating back 300 years with the first Chesterfield being commissioned by Lord Phillip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield. That's pretty much where the *known*history ends.
Why he designed a piece in this style is still a mystery with several theories being touted by furniture historians, our favourite of which is that he wanted a chair to help him sit upright so as not to wrinkle his clothes but adding deep-set buttons to intentionally make the sofa uncomfortable so his guests wouldn't stay too long...
He seems like quite a character this Lord Phillip chap and we are pleased to say that it's only the stunning exterior that has stayed the same in the Chesterfield sofa; the internal workings are now entirely modern with comfort being a leading factor in their current design.
This fine example of a three seater Chesterfield has a frame crafted from mango woodwith hand turned legs that are finished in an oak stain. The traditional tweed is luxurious and has both orange and blue running through it for a slight contemporary twist. The detailing in the piped edged arms is glorious and the self-buttons are the finishing touch no Chesterfield would be complete without.
It's elegance, charm, high quality and good taste all rolled into one piece, and we think it's fabulous.
As all these sofas are handmade, there may be slight variations batch to batch so please be aware if matching items from the range.
Available in a one, two and three seater version. We have Chesterfields also available in leather and velvet.
Here at Brown and Ginger we promise to do our best to have a positive impact on our environment, we've switched to paper tape which is not only easier for you to open (no scissors required!) but it's easier on the environment. We also use 100% starch packing chips which simply melt away under water and FSC certified voidfill paper.
Only where absolutely neccessary do we use plastic packaging which has been re-used from other packaging, come with the product from the factory or, when shipping mirrors or particularly delicate items, to provide the extra protection to stop the items breaking in transit.
We have also recently made the switch to eco bubble wrap for those items where we want to make extra sure it gets to you safely. This is green and can be recycled with your other plastic.
We're working with our suppliers to reduce their use of plastic and will always do our best to ensure we're being as ethical as possible in all of our practices.
