Flock is a firm favouritehere and these fierce busts are bringing history to the room with serious sass.
Whilst just 4'11" tall, Queen Victoria was a towering presence within the Empire. She restored the reputation of the monarchy which had been well and truly trashed by her extravagant uncles and she shaped a new role for the Royal Family, reconnecting it with the public through civic duties all whilst mothering nine children and suffering with post-natal depression. We are in awe and also wish we could go back in time and give her a huge hug.
From the moment Queen Victoria saw prince Albert arriving at the foot of the staircase at Windsor in 1839, she was smitten. Five days later she summoned him to her blue closet and proposed to him, as was tradition for the head of state, and the first 'yas queen' was uttered. Probably.
Queen Victoria married Prince Albert, on 10 February 1840 in St James’s Palace chapel, Victoria wore a large white wedding dress and had a tiered wedding cake which started a new tradition among brides who in the past had worn their Sunday best to the ceremony. The relationship was a passionate one and Victoria often lost her temper with her new husband (we know the feeling 🙊).
Fast-forward 21 years and Prince Albert suddenly and tragically died in 1861, the grief-stricken Queen Victoria dedicated herself to memorialising the marriage as a perfect union. Thanks to the queen’s efforts, her marriage to Albert came to be seen as one of the great love matches of all time.
