Care Guide

Brown & Ginger wants to ensure you know how best to look after your items once they've left us and made their way safely to your home or garden so here we've created a list of suggestions on how best to look after your beautiful items.
If you have any questions simply send us a message  and we'll respond with some tips!

Lanterns

If kept indoors, in dry and reasonably stable temperatures, lanterns should require little to no maintenance. If kept outdoors, copper lanterns will age gracefully with a verdigris patina, this can be avoided by applying lacquer approximately once a year (or when needed).

Painted lanterns will rust, chip and fade when exposed to rain, extreme sunshine and general changes in temperature, we recommend bringing them indoors during extreme weather and maintaining them by sanding down any rust and giving them a fresh coat of metal paint or clear lacquer as needed.

Outdoor Lighting

Our outdoor lighting is all covered by a minimum two year guarantee, the length of the guarantee and any exclusions will be covered on each item's individual page. If you'd like further information about this guarantee please get in touch.

Post Boxes & Metal Sculptures

If kept indoors, in dry and reasonably stable temperatures (a well covered porch, for example), the post box or sculpture should require little to no maintenance.

If kept outdoors, metal post boxes and sculptures will age gracefully with patina, this can be avoided by applying lacquer approximately once a year (or when needed).

Painted post boxes and sculptures may weather (rust, chip and fade when exposed to rain, extreme sunshine and general changes in temperature), we recommend maintaining them with a fresh coat of suitable good quality paint as needed, usually annually.

If you live in a coastal area exposed to seawater this may need to be more frequent.

Some people love the vintage look which happens naturally over time, in which case, leave the weather to do what it does best!
